Colourful, beautiful Bali…my go to destination. Aussie tourist central and social media capital. Bali is a place where you can unwind, relax and experience some of the best food, culture and most of all scenery. Bali is a safe and easy travel destination to travel around. Oh, and did I mention the BEST sunsets EVER!!!
I have travelled to Bali numerous times and have pretty much seen everything. I absolutely adore Bali - the architecture, the people and that vibe just draws me back. If you haven’t been before, you will want to after reading this and you will definitely agree with me. While I am no expert on Bali, I can give you a little first timer’s guide. Here are my ultimate top tips and recommendations. There is something for every traveller.
BEST PLACES TO STAY WHILE IN BALI
Seminyak is tourist central, as is Kuta. But personally, for me, Seminyak is where you want stay. Seminyak is definitely your local hot spot for great food, entertainment, bars, and shopping. There are many great hotels and private villas to stay but personally, I would stay in a private villa for the experience. Villas in Bali are all equipped with huge rooms and bath areas (the majority are outside). You will want to experience the sunset on Seminyak beach from about 5.30pm onwards every day. Trust me, it’s worth it.
Canggu – Ahhh the beach getaway. Canggu is the place to go if you are a beach bum and love to surf. It's just 25 minutes from Seminyak. A more laid back vibe, it's filled with surfers. To me, it's more the country/city and beach combined into one. You have the hustle and bustle in some parts and a few metres up you are surrounded by rice fields. Canggu also offers an amazing variety of foods, bars and shopping. It's like a cool trendy place to visit.
Ubud – This place is ultimately my absolute favourite place in Bali….It is so different from any place in Bali. I have stayed in Ubud a few times and just fall more and more in love with it on every visit. You will find fewer tourists, more temples and expansive jungles. Ubud is like the place that hasn’t aged. Everything is still like it used to be centuries ago. It’s surrounded by magnificent rice fields, temples and stone statues. It’s the place of worship. Ubud is the spiritual hippy city of Bali. You will experience the wholesome life in Ubud. Ubud is the retreat centre where you can unwind at a yoga retreat, detox, meditate and feel rejuvenated.
Uluwatu – Wow – This is a must-see spot while in Bali. The cliff views overlooking the ocean are breathtaking. This is definitely the place to see an amazing sunset. Staying at a beach front private villa will be an experience in itself.
Lombok – If you have the time on your trip, I highly recommend taking the fast boat across to Lombok. Travel to Padang Bai where you will catch the fast boat. Lombok is an Indonesian Island located just east of Bali. While travelling on a fast boat you will pass the three Gili Islands - Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Gili T is a popular tourist destination. Lombok offers a relaxing island life but there is still plenty to see and experience there. It’s a great place to surf as well as going on hikes and experiencing incredible waterfalls. Lombok also has a safari zoo. This was one of my favourites and where I experienced a day with an Orangutan named ‘Valet’. We had real close encounters with hippos, elephants, birds and monkeys. This is a conservation park for these animals.
BEST PLACES TO EAT WHILE IN BALI
Bali food is just INCREDIBLE. They serve up mouth-watering traditional food like nasi-goreng (fried rice) or Mie Goreng (noodle). I have never visited a country that provides such a delicious and healthy variety of food. You have to try it to believe it. It is inundated with cafes upon cafes, restaurants upon restaurants with all sorts of delicious cuisines. Here is a list of MUST-GO-TO places for travelling foodies, I guarantee you they will not disappoint.
